Dear Tony,

This month I want to talk about co-ordinated video campaigns for your website and why they could help you get the edge. The great thing about running video on your site is that it's highly effective (we've all been trained from an early age to watch TV ads) and highly measurable. So you can be very clear what results you're getting from your video campaign. And that, of course, is crucial at a time when every marketing penny counts.

Best wishes.

Gill

Should We Add Video To Our Marketing Mix?

The simple answer is ‘yes'! Next to being face to face with someone, video is the most powerful form of communication there is. And now YouTube has made video communication available to everyone over the web, there's no reason to hold back.

Three good reasons:

  • A well planned video campaign will differentiate you from your competitors.
  • It will increase trust and belief among your customers that your company is here to stay.
  • It could increase your conversion rate of web visitors to loyal customers by up to 400%. (See the Web Publishing blog for more info.)

Where Do We Start?

Here are five ideas to get you thinking about what to include in a co-ordinated video campaign on your website:

  • Present the ‘face' of your business on your landing page. A two-minute video intro by the person who embodies your company's personality will engage potential customers and start to establish a relationship between them and you.
  • Produce a short video ad about a new product or service you're launching. It's the ideal opportunity to show, not tell, customers. Think about running a video webcast to appeal to customers for that product – it will create more prospects for you.
  • Thought about starting a vlog (a video blog)? This is the ideal space for you to engage more intimately with your customers, and gives them the chance to interact with you. Keep it real, keep it honest and don't be afraid to add humour or personal details to your vlog posts.
  • Don't forget about selling an online webinar, or bite-size chunks of a training session. It's a low-cost way of getting your name and expertise out there, and improves communication simply. You can also generate passive income - money while you sleep - through sales of downloaded videos.
  • A satisfied customer telling their story or providing you with a testimonial is a good way to increase belief in your business, products and services. It's always better to have someone else say how great you are, and smiling, happy customers sell!
