Newsletter Issue II

Dear Reader

As it looks as though summer's finally arrived, we're focusing on two important aspects of heat and sun in this month's issue. Excessive sweating can be a real and uncomfortable problem – but there is a solution – see related article.

Over-exposure to the sun can cause all kinds of skin problems and we should all be vigilant about really good protection.

Plus – we've got some great offers for you, and read about how one young woman got the look she wanted for her special day!

Have a great month and enjoy the weather – sensibly.

Best wishes.

Adrian Richards

Don’t Get in a Sweat…

Excessive sweating or hyperhydrosis can be either from specific parts of your body or it can be general. Your hands, feet, armpits and groin are the most active regions of perspiration due to the relatively high concentration of sweat glands. However, you can experience sweating anywhere in the body.

To combat the problem, we inject an amount of Dysport solution into the skin in around 10 to 15 sites spaced about 1cm apart. Sometimes an iodine and starch test is used to locate the area where sweating is greatest. Treatment normally takes about 30 minutes and can last for up to 12 months. To find out more about this procedure or to book a FREE Consultation please call 0800 328 5743 or visit http://www.sweatbreaker.co.uk/.

Damage to the skin from the sun is known as photo damage and its most noticeable effect is ageing.

The twin on the left worked indoors whilst the twin on the right worked outdoors exposed to the sun.

The detrimental effects of too much sun on skin over time include:

  • premature ageing (lines, wrinkles and sagging)
  • motley brown pigmentation
  • rough texture
  • dry, irritated skin
  • sallow complexion
  • more serious changes to the skin's immune functions that can
    lead to skin cancer
    .

The most important aspect to treating sun damaged skin is sun protection. Evidence suggests that skin can repair itself to a large extent if rigorous sunscreen protection is practised.

The Rationale Product range comes from Australia where the population take sun protection very seriously indeed.

The company's scientific approach coupled with visible results quickly earned the support of the medical profession and today Rationale Skincare is only available through many dermatologists and plastic surgeons.

Save your skin with the Intelligent Sun Care Range from Rationale – which protects you from UVA, UVB and UVR in one product - available from the Aurora Online Shop .

Claire’s Special Day – with Aurora

Just a week after getting engaged last summer, Claire Cordell, 33, decided to have cosmetic surgery.

“I was once a size 10 but, after having children, I felt like I had the body of a woman a decade older,” says Claire. ”When my fiancé proposed I was thrilled, but I had this sinking feeling about showing off my body in front of friends and family. Of course my fiancé said he loved me as I was, but there was no way I was going to get married until I felt better about how I looked.”

Claire made an appointment with Adrian Richards, Surgical Director of Aurora, and booked a tummy tuck (Abdominoplasty) and Breast Uplift (Mastopexy), giving herself six months to recover before her wedding.

It was a decision that Claire did not take lightly. Her surgeon talked her through what would happen to ensure she had realistic expectations. Claire had five kilos of fat and skin removed from her tummy and a breast lift, paid for by her fiancé as a joint birthday and wedding gift. After four weeks she had healed.

Claire is delighted with the results. ”I'm not going to say it was painless because my body felt very tender afterwards, but I felt I was in good hands and the risks – such as infection – had been explained to me.”

Claire booked her first wedding dress fitting soon afterwards and couldn't wait to put her dress on. ”I didn't have to worry about wearing a bra in my dress. It felt very tight at the waist but I felt confident posing for pictures on my wedding day. I used to hate having my photo taken but I enjoyed being the centre of attention.

”My fiancé was over the moon with my new confidence – and ecstatic about my new, firm breasts! It's not just about having a new body but feeling much better about myself and happier as a result.”
